Asking for Forgiveness

When I think about forgiveness, I often think about something that I did wrong maybe even consciously but a lot of today's apology reflects on something very particular to African American culture which has to do with a system of oppression that has made it very difficult for black men to be specific types of available. It encourages a view which considers us irresponsible, cold, angry, volatile, unstable, unreliable.

Although it may be something that's caused by another force or entity, there is still utility in expressing sorrow, expressing apology because it is a healing force and one that we can use to our benefit especially if it opens up necessary dialogue. To all of my brothers uncles cousins out there, let your apology be sincere and allow it to be a channel for communication, openness and healing.
